BATTLE READY WITH THE SHOES OF PEACE AND SHIELD OF FAITH

You can listen to this sermon by clicking here or you can read the notes below.

Shoes of Peace:

The whole imagery of Ephesians 6 is that we need to put on the Lord Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit go into battle. We buckle on the belt of truth which is Jesus. We put on the breastplate of righteousness which is living according to the Word of God and His truth, and then we make sure our feet are fitted with the shoes of peace which only God can give.

Peace is a gift from God but the enemy tries to destroy our:

1. Peace with God

  • Since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. Romans 5:1-2

2. Peace of God

  • Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

3. Peace with others

  • As far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18

Shield of Faith:

  • Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Ephesians 6: 16

  • “with which” = dunamis (Greek) = explosive power or dynamic power  = description of the power of the Holy Spirit in the Christian’s life.

  •  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,  dynamically empowered by the Holy Spirit so you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” Ephesians 6: 16

  • SOLDIER: Extinguish = Quench arrows by drenching shield in water

  • CHRISTIAN: Extinguish = Quench arrows by drenching our thoughts and emotions in the Word

  • The more we read the Bible, the more drenched our faith becomes. And the more drenched our faith becomes, the more arrows will be quenched / extinguished.

  • Keep your faith shield drenched by choosing to believe God's promises over your feelings and the facts.

  • Analyze your situation. Remember who God is and what He has promised. Make a choice to rely on Him and Him alone.
