BATTLE READY: WITH THE HELMET OF SALVATION AND SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

Did you know that we cannot have two thoughts at the same time. For example, if we’re thinking about what our plans are for tomorrow, we can’t also be thinking about what we’re having for dinner tonight. One thought replaces the other. Therefore, if we’re thinking about something loving, we cannot simultaneously think about something unloving. The Word of God reminds us that we are to put on every piece of the armour of God so that we are able to resist the enemy and stand.

The last 2 pieces of armour are the helmet of salvation which protects our minds, and the sword of the Spirit which is the only weapon we have against the enemy’s attacks. Satan is in the business of waging a battle for the possession and control of our minds. His purpose is to corrupt or confuse us, whether through false teaching or through the world’s value system, so that it is impossible for us to think about God and His purposes. That’s why it is so important to examine the meaning behind Apostle Paul’s statement that, as believers we protect our minds with the helmet of salvation. Through the Lord Jesus we can have victory in the area of the mind, where most of Satan’s battles take place, since Christ is our helmet. 1 Corinthians 2:16 encourages us to remember that believers “have the mind of Christ.” And 2 Corinthians 10:5 explains that those who are in Christ have divine power to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” This is why we have to guard our minds, and put on our helmet daily.

The last piece of armour that God gives us is the sword of the Spirit, which represents the Word of God. The sword of the Spirit is unique in that it is a weapon and armour. It can be used as both an offensive and defensive instrument. While God’s Word can protect us from the lies of the enemy, it can also counter his attacks. To understand the connection between the sword and the Word of God, it is important to understand the power of God’s Word. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Through God’s Word, we can distinguish between right and wrong. As a result, we can strive to live in a way that is free from sin. His Word is the ultimate truth, and we can find confidence in knowing it is our greatest weapon. Take up the Sword of the Spirit in your daily life and use it! When God is on our side, who can stand against us!

Put on the armour of God and have it on all the time.

Love and blessings,

Pastor Sabrina
