BATTLE READY WITH THE HELMET OF SALVATION AND SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

We don’t get to pick and choose what pieces of armour we wear. We are told 2 times in Ephesians 6: 10-18 to put on the full armour of God so we can stand against the devil’s schemes and when the day of evil comes, to stand our ground. The armour of God is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ. To put on the full armour of God is just another way of saying put Jesus on and in the power of the Holy Spirit, take your stand against the enemy.
The Helmet of Salvation:
The helmet of salvation is not initial salvation but is the assurance of salvation that all believers have. The assurance of salvation is:
Knowing that when we ask the Lord to forgive us of our sins, He does.
The understanding that no matter what the enemy does, God is in control.
The expectancy that we will one day spend eternity in His presence.
How do we keep the helmet on?
1. Renew your mind every day (Romans 12:1-2)
With the helmet of salvation through the power of the Holy Spirit...
we have a renewed mind (Romans 12:2)
we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)
we have a sound mind (2 Corinthians 5:13)
we are alert (1 Corinthians 15:34), and
we focus on things above (Colossians 3:2) thinking about what is true, noble, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8).
2. Reject fear that arises (Romans 8:38-39)
Living under the weight of the "what ifs" is a hard place to live.
“I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.” Romans 8:38-39
3. Keep your eyes on eternity (Philippians 4: 13-14)
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have figured out life, but there is one thing I do. Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” ~ Phil. 3: 13-14
Remember that victory is already won so we don’t fight for victory, we fight from victory.
Sword of the Spirit:
The Word of God is inerrant, infallible, sufficient, authoritative, effective and complete.
There are 2 Greek words for Word of God" Logos and Rhema
Logos - The whole Bible from cover to cover, the entire written word of God. Through the Logos we can learn about God and know His ways, His way of salvation, and His plan for mankind.
Rhema - Bible verses for specific situations we face, also known as the sword of the Spirit
One Rhema word has the power to eliminate the enemy’s attacks!
How do we use the sword of the Spirit?
Read the Word
Memorize the Word
Apply the Word
The church is not an audience to be entertained. It is an army to be empowered.
